The research team has been delivering significant outreach and engagement activities through workshops with project partners in emissions-intensive industries and government agencies to ensure that the software and solutions are data-driven, implementable, and align with national decarbonisation strategies.
Workshops involved discussions on approaches to decarbonising energy systems, presenting efficiency improvement techniques for the energy sector and mechanisms for funding CO2 reduction projects, and creating partnerships with local stakeholders for future collaboration.
Year 2022
A workshop was organised for industrial engineers and policymakers in Malaysia, during the summer of 2022. In this workshop, the initial version of DECO2 was presented and the techniques, tools, and considerations for carbon emissions reduction were discussed.
Year 2024
In March 2024, a series of workshops and seminar were held across ASEAN countries, to present the updated version of DECO2 and to discuss future collaborations on developing sustainable energy system.
In July, the University of Surrey hosted the Energy Decarbonisation Workshop, sponsored by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) and the Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) at the University of Surrey. The workshop brought together collaborators from universities in the UK and the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) to enable policy analysis for energy decarbonisation. Approaches to decarbonising energy systems were discussed in the context of the ASEAN countries, along with efficiency improvements for industry and market mechanisms for funding emissions mitigation projects.
