A recent report issued ahead of COP27 has confirmed that the creative industries have a significant environmental impact. Yet despite the sector’s size - the sector generated £126bn in gross value added to the UK economy and 2.4 million jobs in 2022 - climate initiatives within the sector are largely self-driven, unregulated, and lack the backing of financial and policy incentives.
This stream explores the current environmental and social impacts of the creative industries, addressing existing good practices, technological innovations, opportunities, and barriers for improving the sustainability of the sector.
Primarily practice-based, our research here works in concord with policymakers and artists to establish appropriate industry standards.
